Iflie case of a nominated immigrant *1)0 came to New Zealand with -a i-.iarantee of employment, amd found ju arrival that the guarantor liad defaulted and thnt there was no work for him was cited in the* House of Representatives last week by Mr J. McCombs (Lyttelton). I>i addressing a (piesiion about the ease to the Minister in charge of Immigration (Hon. W. osworthy), Mr nsked whether safeguards were provided to assure that the guarantors fulfilled their contracts. He also asked wluat proportion of the thousands of iimieiants who came from time to time met a similar situation. Mr XoiSworthy said that he did not think that there had been very manv cases of default. If supplied with particulars of the case quoted lie would 'iave it investigated. It would be for (lie Department >to see that the guarrin'or kept, his contract. It would bo understood that cases of this kind were boama to happen in spite of all precautions. There would be cases uhich nobody could provide against - 1 d eo ch as it occurred would be dealt ui!h in the best way possible in the . rd renin stances.
