President Taft's action against the Western railroads is due to their filing oolleotive schedules of increased rates indicating conceited action aud possibly so called conspiracy, while the Eastern lines are spared because the individual schedules are filed.

The New York Osutral annouuoes the oaucelling of orders for £GOft,ooo worth of cars and the postponement of improvements coßtiDg £1,600,000, also the discontinuance of negotiations for the sale of the Miohagan Central bonds at Paris for £8,500,000. The great steel, companies announce that the prices of steel will increase to railroads if freight rates advanoe.
