Empire Farmers' Party.

ARRIVAL UN QUEENSTOWN

The party orßritish Empire farmers, who are at present touring New Zealand under the auspices ot the British National Union, arrived in Queenstown at 'mid-day on Sunday, having come from Pembroke. The leader ol the party, Mr Samuei 11. Whitley, was met by Mr J. Cockburn, president of the district branch 01' the N.Z. Farmers Union ,and accorded a hearty welcome. The party numbered over 80. This is not quite the full complement, a few having been detained through sickness or business elsewhere. They were quartered at Hotel Eicliardt, the M lute Star, and Mcßride’s hotel. In the afternoon the visitors took things quietly as they were glad to get an opportunity to rest after a fairly strenuous period of travel. On Monday the party were the guests ot the N.Z. Govt, on a lake trip to Glenorchy, whence they motored to Paradise. District farmers and their wives were invited to accompany them, but only a few were able to" do so on account 01 the present, being such a busy time m the country. The day was fine, though not. as bright as it might have been, and the outing was thoroughly enjoved by everybody. Last evening a few farmers came into town and called on members oi the party. The visitors exinced keen interest in what local sons ot the sol haa to tell them, and the exchange oi ideas which ensued may be expected to result m mutual benefit. The party left for InvercargiL tins morning.
