April 19, 1864. 2440 Tenders. POSTAL. PUBLIC NOTICE. ONVEYANCE OF MAILS. [All persons desirous of Tendering for the undermentioned Mail services are hereby informed that every tender not containing the names of two responsible sureties will be treated as informal, and will not be received.] TENDERS will be received at the Chief Post-office, Christchurch, until noon, on Wednesday, the 25th day of May, 1864, for the conveyance of the undermentioned Mails from the Ist day of July, 1864, to the 30th day of June, 1865. LYTTELTON AND CHRISTCHURCH MAIL. For the conveyance of mails between Lyttelton and Christchurch twice a day. Mails to leave Christchurch every day (excepting Sundays), at 8.30 a.m., and 1 p.m.; the Mails leaving Lyttelton at the same hours. The Mails not to be longer than two hours on the road. The Contractors for this service to have horses always ready at any hour of the day or night to take expresses between the two towns, and to state the amount for which they will convey light Mails, &c., at per journey between the towns. Also for the conveyance of the Newspapers arriving by English Mails, via Sumner, to be delivered at the Post-office, Christchurch, within three hours of their being landed on the Wharf at Lyttelton. Also for the conveyance of the Homeward English Mails, from Christchurch to Lyttelton, via Sumner, time with last portion not to exceed two hours and a half. CHRISTCHURCH AND KOWAI MAIL. For the conveyance of a Daily Mail from Christchurch to Leithfield. Mail to start from Christchurch at 9 a.m., arrive at the Kowai at noon, remain there one hour and a half, and to arrive at Christchurch at 4.30 p.m. KAIAPOI AND RANGIORA MAIL. For the conveyance of a daily Mail from Kaiapoi to Rangiora, leaving Kaiapoi at 11 a.m., and returning there by 3 p.m. RANGIORA AND OXFORD. For the conveyance of Mails twice a week between Rangiora and Oxford. The Mails to leave Rangiora at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday, and to return to Rangiora by 4 p m. every Wednesday and Saturday. KOWAI AND. HAWKSWOOD MAIL. For the conveyance of Mails weekly from the river Kowai to Hawkswood in the Nelson province. To leave the Post-office, Kowai, at 1 p.m. every Monday, returning to the Kowai on Saturdays by 1 p.m. CHRISTCHURCH AND RIVER WAITANGI. For the conveyance of Mails three times a week between Christchurch and the river Waitangi. The Contractor not to be more than three days on the journey; to remain at least two hours on the river Waitangi. RIVER ASHBURTON, AND THE BANKS OF THE ASHBURTON. For the conveyance of a weekly Mail between the above places. TIMARU AND MACKENZIE COUNTRY MAILS. For the conveyance of Mails once a week between Timaru and the Mackenzie Plains. CHRISTCHURCH AND ST. ALBAN'S MAIL. For tiie conveyance of a Mail twice a week between Christchnrch and St. Albans. LYTTELTON, AKAROA, AND PIGEON BAY MAILS. For the conveyance of Mails three times a week between Lyttelton and Alcma. The mails to start from Lyttelton every Monday, Weduesday, and Friday morning, leaving Akaroa at the same time. The Mails from each place to arrive in Pigeon Bay by 1 p.m., and the Contractors to remain there one hour. LYTTELTON, LITTLE AKALOA, DECANTER BAY, AND OKAIN'S BAY MAILS. For the conveyance of a weekly Mail between the above places. LYTTELTON AND PORT LEVY MAIL. For the conveyance of a Mail once a week between Lyttelton and Port Levy. Mails to leave Lyttelton at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, return Mails to be delivered in Lyttelton by 11 a.m. on Mondays. LYTTELTON AND GOVERNOR'S BAY MAIL. For the conveyance of a Mail once a week from Lyttelton to Mr. Blatchford's, Governor's Bay. GENERAL CONDITIONS. Tenders for each service must state the names of proposed sureties, and bonds signed on the conditional acceptance of the tenders by the Chief Postmaster. Contractors to be bound to keep mails diy, and if carried on horseback, to take every means to prevent the chafing of the contents of mail tags while travelling. Contractors will not be allowed to take up at any place within one mile of a Post-office, any letters or newspapers; but letters and newspapers may be carried by the contractors between places along the road which are more than a mile distant from the Post-office. Such letters to have the proper amount of postage in stamps affixed to them, which stamps the contractor is bound to destroy. Contractors must undertake to receive and deliver letter bags at such houses or places along the road as may be desired by the Postmaster. Contractors will be bound to proceed with mails ■without any undue delay or stoppage on the road after the hour of departing from the Post-office. Mail cart drivers and letter carriers to be subject to instant dismissal if found drunk while on duty. The Postmaster to have the option at any time of delaying the contractor for half-an-hour after the usual hour for the departure of the mail. Penalties for breach of contract will be strictly enforced, as well by deductions from the amounts due to contractors as also by putting their bonds in suit. Tenders will be received for either service separately, or for two or more services together. Tenderers to state in what way they intend to carry the mails; whether in carts or horseback.
