Mr Phillijis has now completed the survey of the town and permanently adjusted the building line. School Committee will meet on Monday night to make arrangements for the breaking-up picnic. On Saturday a weary wayfarer who gave his name-as Duncan Campbell was) brought before Mr C. Malfroy and Dr Ginders, J.Ps., charged with vagrancy. It appeared from the evidence that the accused was at one time an inmate of the Costley Homo, but had left that institution and had gravitated up this way in an effort to reach Napier, where he had friends. When "he arrived in Rotorua he was in an exhausted condition, and Mr Boulton of the Grand Hotel having become acquainted with the fact afforded him a shelter for a day or two. Campbell stated to the Bench that ho was an ex-officer of the Imperial service and had been attached to the 90th Foot. He was in receipt of a pension of 5s per day, but an embargo had been placed upon it up to January next by order of the Auckland Hospital authorities, of which institution he had been an inmate. He had tramped all the way from Auckland. The Bench considered it singular that a man so situated should he in such straits, and remanded him- to Mount Eden gaol for six weeks, to which place he was forwarded under the care of Constable Murray on Monday last.

Mackenzie's Concert Party. Judging by the programme enclosed with this issues very pleasant evening's amusement may bo anticipated, Mx Mackenzie's reputation as a vocalist and humorist is firmly established, and his previous visit to this district in combination with the Bessie Doyle Company is favorably remembered. Since then he has achieved fresh laurels, and now comes to us in conjunction with a company ou whose performances the highest encomiums have been lavished. Miss Jessie Glover is a highly-gifted contralto and character vocalist, Miss Louise Aylett a charming soprano, and the male members of the Company, Messrs W. F. H. Mackenzie, character darner, Alfred Pearson, reciter, and AV. J. Hooloy, accompanist, all render valuable assistance. Tin; entertainment will com hide with a highly humorous musical comedietta.
