THE SUN-WORTHINGTON LIBEL ACTION.

A meeting of persons who sympathise with the action ot the Sun newspaper with reference to Mr A. B. "Worthington, was hold in Hobbs's Buildings on Monday night. The Bev W. Birch was in the chair, and the room was crowded. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, referred to the conduct of the plaintiff in the libel action since coming to Christchurch, and stated that ihe main ohject of the meeting was to provide means for the editor of tho Sun to carry on the case. All who did not sympathise with this object were requested t') leave the room, and two men left. It was proposed by Mr Bendely, seconded by a lady and cartied unanimously—''That this meeting approves of the action of the Sun mewspaper in endeavouring to force Mr A. B. Worthington to justify his position as a teacher of morals and religion in this city." The Chairman announced an anonymous donation of £2 2s to the defence fund. Mr Hornsby said that he had during a long experience, always supported the weaker side. "Wealthy papers had said exactly what he had said io the Sun, and no libel action had followed. He announced that evidence would be taken in New York, and that of Sister Magdula would be taken hero. It was necessary for the good of the community that tbe matter should be sifted. It was for this purpose, and not for the mere purpose of aiding him personally, that the assistance of the people was required. Tbe Bev \V . Birch was elected treasurer.
