LIGHTNING IN CHURCH.
The tower of St. Columbs' church, Cornwall, was struck by lightning on Sunday, January Gth. The service had just commenced when a flash, of bluish colour and intense bri'Hancy, was followed by a deafening crash like the explosion of a bomb. The congregation rushed excitedly out of tho building, and the service had to be abandoned. The electric current travelled down to the be 1 fry, and then up tho middle aisle, where it presented the appearance of a huge bn" of fire and sparks. One of tho ringers was thrown out over tho railings into tho church, a distance of 2» feet, and sustained a bad cut on the head. His companions were stunned by the force of the current. All the glass in the belfry window was broken to pieces, and the inside of the wall was torn. The gas meter was affected and a slight explosion oca—red, setting fire to the floor, but tho flanu s was extinguished before much damage was done.
