RIFLE MATCH AT HAVELOCK.

This match, the result of a challenge from the members of the Napier Rifle Club came off. at Havelock on Saturday, 27th April, between eleven members of the Napier Club arid < an equal number.. of competitors from various parts of the country.; Capt. Withers hjaving kindly granted the use of the Militia* target;' and' also *a supply*of ammunition for the - occasion, all arwith regard to the range \vere left to Mr Garry, 1 on whose ground ah excellent’range Was provided. On account'of the early*hour at which the shooting was to commence, most of the competitors'' passed the previous night at Havelock. Arriving on the ground all expressed themselves satisfied with the range.. ..The weather proved all that could be desired, and no dispute arose to mar the harmony of this, which wasTcertainly the most successful meeting of the kind ever held in this Province. We subjoin the scoring, by which it will be seen that the Napier Rifle Club were the victors by 21 points. As will be observed, however, the contest was a very close one during some part of the time, and the second and third highest scores were made by two of the cour.» try competitors,- Messrs. Small and Hollis, who scored respectively 41 and 40 points. In firing the two parties were alternated, but we give the scores separately. The shooting commenced at half-past nine a.m., aud was concluded at three p.m. The firing over, , the competitors adjourned to partake of an excellent repast provided for them in a spacious tent by Mr T. Reynolds. A very pleasant hour was spent in agreeable conversa tion, and iti discussing the good things of this life, during which many desires were expressed that this might not be the last of such meetings.
