The Currency Question

The Premier states that he intended to take advantage of the concession of the coining of silver which locally will mean an initial cost to the colony, of between L6OOO and L7OOO. The local mint authorities are of opinion that there are considerable difficulties 1 in the way of the scheme. It is riot likely that the concession will be availed of for a considerable time. The necessary addition to machinery will require a large outlay, and while silver is coining the coinage of gold will have to be stopped, seriously interfering with the gold industry. Special regulations will be necessary to make the locally coined silver a tender outside of the colbny t
