TRUANCY.
Tho Truancy Inspector for the \Vangaiiui Education District (Mr C. •J. Skinner) has been making .history among the Maori parents of the Tar■anaki end of the district, with the assistance of a Magistrate' who realises the necessity of education for the Maoris. At Haw-era yesterday, beibre Mr Kcndrick, S".M., a Maori named Pakera, who was summoned for not sending his children to school, pleaded that as the children had no mother l:.e thought it was the best thing to send his children to work. The Magistrate lined Pakera 10s and 17s Gd costs in each of two cases and ordered him to send his children t:> school at once. Another native named William Howe was also dealt with similarly.
