' ENGINEER'S REPORT.

Mr Roy L. Harding reported:— Mangaone Riding.— 1 find that the deposit of gravel oil the Cemetery road exists only i n a very limited quaii'tity, but tnere is a good pit on Mr iveisos property, and gravel obtained From this pit for Mr Pleffsant's road would cost about 4 S per yard ilie roadman i s at work in this riding cleaning out water tables and clonic general work. I h ave not yet been able to call tenders for regrading the lull on Mac Donald's road. Raumanga Riding.—Contract No 3 gravelling Stanway road, has been completed and a start made on contract No. 8, Ma-kino road. An e\:tra man has been put on to clean drains on Stanway road. A small culvert on Jokorangj road, and one on JVlakara road require replacing with concrete pipes.

Makmo Hiding.—As instructed, 1 haver had water-tables on Mangaone road hill cleaned out; the culverts on tins hill are too far apart; I would suggest that three more small culverts be put in. A start will be made to-day- on contract No. 7, supply of gravel on lower part of Kimbolton road.

laonui Riding.—Contract No 19 supply of gravel on Taoimi road is proceeding, about 600 yards -having been delivered. lam having the gravel at the side of the road screened in order to try an experiment with the roller. .1 he sharp corner on Reid's Jjine, near Buiinythorpe road has been cut hack about 6 feet. I inspected the Cemetery road, at Biinnyed improvements are the best that thorpe and consider that the proposcould be effected for the sum stipulated. "

Hiwiimi Hiding.—.Contract No 16 supply of gravel on Palmerston-Ash-liurst road, has been completed and a start made on contract No. 15 on Watershed road. I have made arrangements with Mr Aitken to fence the road through the Ferry Reserve LI per chain. ;m d Mr Thessman has undertaken to fence the deviation of Siberia road for the sum of 19 S pet . chain. Both of these works hive been commenced and will shortly Tje completed. J
