(per prese association.J THE CENSUS. Wellington, April 26. The ceusus returns for Wellington *nd district show that the city proper has gained. 5713 in population since 1906, while Wellington and suburbs, mot including Petone and Hutt, and adjacent districts, has gained 8066.
SAD DEATH OF A CHILD. Auckland, April 27. of Mrs Paulbauni, was having tea when the sleeve ot her dress caught fire from a candle. The flames were quickly extinguished, but not before the child was badly burned. Death ensued from shock. GREATER AUCKLAND.
Auckland, April 27. The census returns for Auckland total 41,067, but is is certain that the complete return-will show that the increase considerably exceeds 10,000 for the past five years. THE COLLINS CASE.
Wellington, April 27. In the Appeal wourt toAlay, Mr Jusice Edwards said that owing vi the facts not being properly broughtbefore the Chief Justice iv the Collins case, in the Court below, he had ordered certain interested parties to be served. The Court., therefore, advised that these interested parties should be served with a subpoena. The appeal is to stand over sine die in the meantime. OFF TO BISLEY.
Wellington, April 2i . The members of New Zealand's Bisteam of riflemen left for England in the Ruapehu to-day in charge of Lieut.-Colonel Hughes, of Wanganui. At a farewell gathering, speeches wore made by the Hon. G. Fowlds, MajorGeneral Godley, and Lieut.-Colonel Collins.
