WELLESLEY STAKES

UNRACED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Although no fewer than 30 juveniles were accepted. for in the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham on Saturday, the probability is that several will be missing on the day. They are representative of both islands, and the clash between those of the south, north, and those, who have attracted attention to themselves at this end of the island will be most interesting and illuminating. Only five of the number have still to make their debut in public, but the defection of Master' Robin now leaves only four "unknowns." They are:—

Al-Sirat.—Brown colt by Foxbridge from Ann Acre, by Acre—Lady Lois, by Lucullus, thus a brother to Bridge Acre (winner C.J.C. Pioneer Handicap and Challenge Stakes) and halfbrother to Green Gables. Was bought at the National Sales by Mr. J. L. Cheesman, of Wellington, for l6oogs, and will carry the same colours as Bridge Acre.

Balcherrie.—Bay colt by Foxbridge from Sweet Colleen 11, a mare bred in Australia by Denis Boy from Sweet Valais, by Valais. Sweet Colleen II did not race, but belongs to a well-per-formed family, her great-grandam, Sweet Lady, having won the A.J.C. Gimcrack Stakes, V.R.C. Maribyrnong Plate, etc. Ardvenhor, winner of the N.Z. Cup, comes from the same family. Balcherrie was bought at the National Sales by Mr. D. Daly, of Lower Hutt, for 300gs.

Gaystock. Brown colt by Gynerium from Gay Molly, by Laughing Prince— Mandane, by Panmure—Cherry Mart Gay Molly was a winner, but never approached the heights of her dam, who won the N.Z. Oaks, A.R.C. Summer Handicap, Wanganui Cup, C.J.C. Fendalton Handicap, and other good races during her active career. Cherry Mart is a half-sister to Enthusiasm, a big winner of classic races.

The Storniovik.-—Chestnut colt by Broiefort from Arena, by Cockpit—Wiwini, by Tea Tray, thus a half-brother to The Champ and Lady Nahleen, both of whom are winners. The Stormovik was bred by Mr. G. S. Walton, of Otaki, wlio races Lady Nahleen.
