ITALIAN FLEET
Rescue from Nazis Asked
LONDON, August 24. The United Nations radio at Algiers has called on the Italian people to do everything possible to prevent their fleet falling into German hands. The radio pointed out what the Germans had done already, taking Italian produce and using Italian man-power, and said: "You still hold a great national asset—the Italian fleet.
"Italiaiss; if the Italian fleet were to fall into German hands, the war would be prolonged for you."
The radio referred to the maritime spirit of the Italian nation, and stressed this as being necessary for its traffic and commerce in the post-war world. It said: "Your duty to Italy and to yourselves is clear: Hinder the Germans in any way possible."
