EXCEEDS £7,300,000

The Reserve Bank announced today that subscriptions to the Liberty L6an now total ;£7,374,550, made up as foll__ ows: Two and a half per cent, applications, 1373 for £2,849,120; 3 per cent, applications, 2065 for £4,525,430; in all, 3438 applications for £7,374,550.

Applications for subscription opened on May 4 and they will close on June 2. Included in the above subscriptions to the loan are John Duthie and Co., Ltd., £5000; Excelsior Supply Co., Ltd., £1000; Wellington Co-opera-tive and Electric Lighting Friendly Society, £1000; Chas. Hill and Son, Ltd., £200; Hill Bros., £200; E. H. Picot, £200; W. B. Belcher, £200; Lands, Ltd., £100.

Every effort is being made—and that with success —to popularise the loan, especially by the widespread issue of Liberty bonds of£l each. These bonds had a brisk sale at, the patriotic concert at the Town Hall last night, when, a special appeal to all classes, the big and little investors, was made by the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan), speaking for the Prime Minister, who was unable to be present. The Hon. V. A. Ward announced at the concert that the occasion would produce £500, and later, Mr. Peter Da-w^on said that someone listening to his singing of "Waltzing Matilda" had been so impressed as to purchase £100 of the Liberty Loan. THE CORNER ACTIVITIES. The band of a military camp, conducted by Captain C. Pike, provided j the programme at Liberty Corner during the luncheon hour today, and many of the large audience, including school children, bought the Liberty Bonds, One-minute speeches were given by Mr. H. C. South, Mr. H. Anderson, and Mr. A. McDougall. Tomorrow the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force will provide another programme, and Miss Ena Rapley will sing "Land of Hope and Glory" with band accompaniment. On Friday there will be an Air Force parade. ,
