The Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. C.^E. Critchley, ctates in his annual report that the development of manufacturing industries ,si New Zealand will undoubtedly affect *he vfUde in finished goods from Aus-
tralia,
He points out that the import restrictions interfered considerably with the establishment of new connections from Australia. Moreover, they had caused an increase in the value and output of articles manufactured in New Zealand, with the result that a number of Australian firms were taking . steps to commence manufacturing in the Dominion to ensure continuity of supplies of their particular products and also to retain the business formerly held. .
In the prevailing circumstances Australian exporters would find it difficult to extend their operations in New Zealand.
