HUTT VALLEY SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society, held last week, was presided over by Mr. J. G. Barton, president. The statement .of accounts for the spring show showed a small profit. Occasion was taken to farewell Mr. and Mrs. A. Grierson, who are leaving the district to reside in Auckland. The president, in presenting Mr. and Mrs. Grierson with a crystal vase and rug, spoke of Mr. Grierson's long association with the society and the valuable assistance he had given. Several members spoke eulogising Mr. Grierson's splendid work of 25 years. Mr. Grierson, in reply, thanked the speakers for their kind appreciation of his services, and said that the success of the society was due to the excellent assistance given by the ladies' committee. The committee decided unanimously to assist in connection with the National Centennial Flower Show, to be held at the Exhibition Buildings on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 30 and 31. The president and executive of the Centennial show were present by invitation, and expressed their appreciation of the support extended by the Hutt Society. Later in the evening the Centennial executive met and decided to call a general meeting on October 25 to arrange special commitMr. A. J. Nicholls, Lower Hutt, was " appointed secretary in place of Mr. Miller, who has resigned. •
