MAIDEN IN STEWARDS'
A high opinion is held of Gay Lancer, and there appears good reason for it. He is still a novice and has been entered for the Stewards' Handicap, but at this stage he appears rather flattered. At Wingatui last Saturday he was a good third to Islay Downs and Janefield, but with a better run in the middle stage he might have made matters more interesting. Gay Lancer is a good type of three-year-pld by Irish Lancer from, the Woodend mare Linwood, who was out of the imported mare Sabor, the dam of Crubenmore, Enwood, Corban, and Jedburgh. Gay Lancer was bred by Mr. A. Chisholm, who sold him to his present owner, Mr. A. H. Fisher.
