CHINESE AIR RAID
ASSERTION BY JAPANESE
TOKIO, October 16,
The War Offlce derideu Chinese claims to victories in Central China, and claims that the Japanese have taken all fortified positions in the Chinese ninth zone, including the mountains south of Kiukiang between the Hupeh and Kiangsi Provinces. A semi-official report from Shanghai says the Japanese assert that Russians manned at least one of the raiding bombers on Hankow on October 14. The bodies of two Russians were found in the wreckage of a Soviet-built bomber. A second Soviet-built bomber was brought down outside Japanese territory.
