POSTER COMPETITION

FOR ART EXHIBITION

The result of the poster competition inaugurated by the management committee of the National Art Gallery, to advertise the International and New Zealand Exhibition of Art during the Centennial period, has been announced. Forty-eight entries were received and some excellent designs were submitted. The winner is Mr. E. O. Chapman, Wellington, who receives a prize of 15 guineas, and the second prize of five guineas has been awarded to Mr. H. Maude, Petone.

The judges were Mr. G. G. Gibbes Watson, president of the Academy, Mr. W. S. Wauchop v and Mrs. Murray Fuller.

The winning design, which shows a seated Native figure with a fern-leaf background, and possibly the second design will be utilised to advertise the art exhibitions.
