OTAKI ASPIRANTS

LUSTRAL IN GOOD ORDER

(By "Rangatira.")

Over thirty Trentham. horses have accepted for the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Spring Meeting on Saturday and the majority of them were galloped this morning, when the weather was fine and the track fairly fast. Among those to work particularly well were Matoru, Arctic King, Might, Gothic, Sky Limit, and Lustral, but several- others were under restraint..

Matoru and Arctic King were assor. dated over six furlongs, and Matoru finished half a length, in front in imin. 17£ sec, the last half-mile in 51sec.

Might led Boomerang and Trebor throughout a mile in Imin 46sec, each, half in 53sec. Boomerang, after being held early, was unable to make much, impression, on Might over the concluding stage. These three stablemates are now all tp race- in the open handicap at Otaki.

Gothic, with a lightweight up, beat Yours Truly and Siegmund by a couple of lengths over a mile in Imin, 44Jsec, the last half-mile in 53sec, a creditable effort for a maiden. Gothic is to race in the hack distance race on- Saturday in preference to the'hack seven, so that Trentham will now have a representative in all eight events.

Sky Limit, a maiden candidate, beat Sigurd by a length over five furlongs in Imin 4£sec-, the last half-mile in 51sec. This Sky Blue gelding has imiproved as a result, of his recent race at Awapuni, his first for three years. Lustral ran away from Etzel over seven furlongs in Imin, 32sec, the last; .half-mile in 54sec, which was, a good, effort for a hurdler.! Lustral. who has freshened up again, was schooled yesterday with Primak, and both gave a fine exhibition of very fast jumping over four fences.

Dainty Sue went out to gallop five furlongs with Silver River, but she bolted before reaching the mark and was always a long way out clear. The race she had at Martoh has benefited her considerably. Globe Trotter, who looks a picture,, was sprinted at the end of his work, and he moved very facilely to top speed.

Gay Hunting and Pharisee were together thoughout five furlongs in lmin ssec, the last half-mile in 51£ sec. Gay Hunting worked more kindly than in other recent gallops. Cornaro was doing it easily at the end of half a mile in 53sec.

Gaylord was half a~ length in front of Liane after running six furlongs in lmin 18sec, the last half-mile in just better than 52sec. Gaylord will probably start in the hack five on Saturday in preference to the maiden event. Great Bramble was-beaten a length by Acrobat oyer six furlongs in lixiin 20sec, the last half-mile in 53sec. Trench Law finished on his own after Hinefawe's saddle had slipped in an easy six furlongs in lmin 23sec, the last half-mile taking 55sec.

Debham (P. Mcßrearty) was popped over two fences, and then, with a light boy substituted, galloped a mile on his own in lmin 48sec, the last halfmile in 53sec. Good Sun (L. T. Nesbitt) and Sunee (R. A. Hawkings) jumped four fences well, though the former .was not quite so bold as on Tuesday. Tidal Gift (Hawkings) also jumped four fences, after balking at the third and running- about a lot. She is in the.hack scurry at Otaki but may not be taken to the meeting.

Tooley Street was given strong pacing, with a,sprint at the end. He is likely to run in;the distance event on Saturday. Lord Cavendish was also kept to pacing, as were Primak, Lady Cygnus, arid Cushla's Last.

Additional riders for Saturday are:— R. Marsh, Boomerang; W. E. Pine, Lustral; A. Foster, Lord Cavendish; G. R. Tattersali, Trench Law; W. J. Mudford, Gothic; and P. Atkins, Dainty Sue, Globe Trotter, Cornaro. No riders have been definitely secured yet for Matoru and Might. P. McBrearty will be on Debham in the hurdles, as Dorado, though an acceptor is understood to be an unlikely starter.
