OBITUARY
PROFESSOR J. ADAMSON
After a.long illness, Professor James Adamson died yesterday at his residence in Kelburn. He was formerly Dean of the Faculty of Law at Victoria University College, a position which he held from 1908 until the beginning of this year.
Professor Adamson was bom in Forfar, Scotland, and educated at Dundee High. School and the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated M.A. and LL.B. After leaving the
University, he was appointed, advocate to the Scottish Bar and practised a few years in Edinburgh. He was appointed to one of the law chairs and made Dean of the Faculty of Law at Victoria College in 1908. Till his retirement because of ill health at the beginning of the present session he was an energetic, successful, and highlyesteemed teacher of the various subjects under his charge. He served as chairman of the Professorial Board, commencing his term in 1915, and represented the Professorial Board on the college council on two occasions. He was also a member of the Academic Board of the University of New Zealand. His wide reading and knowledge of all departments of law made his lectures outstanding, and those who studied under him had an admirable teacher and real friend. To him is due the credit of having done much to raise the standard of teaching and examination in law subjects.
Professor Adamson, whose funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon after a service in St. John's Church, is survived by his widow, whom he married shortly after his arrival in New Zealand
