VICTORIA HOUSE
DEMOLITION STILL TO BEGIN
If. is now many weeks since Victoria House was burnt out and the shell condemned as a" dangerous structure, but demolition work has still to begin. The report made shortly after the fire was that the whole of the rear wall \ was in such state as to require demolition and that the other walls should I be reduced to the height of the. third floor. Demolition will present unusual difficulties and possibly will entail the erection of a scaffolding round all four sides to the full height of the building, for the nearby buildings and also the internal structure— or what is left Of it —rule out any felling of walls in mass. The matter will no doubt come before the City Council again very soon, for the shell has been declared to be dangerous and action has been ordered.
