STOKES VALLEY MOTHERS
PLEASANT CLOSING PARTY
There was a large and enthusiastic attendance at the final meeting for the year of the Stokes Valley branch of the League of Mothers. Mrs. H. F. Lowe presided, and extended a warm welcome to members and visitors from the local Women's Institute and Lower Hutt League of Mothers. Arum lilies, lemon-coloured marigolds, and scarlet geums made a decorative setting for the stage.
An amusing play-reading entitled "Widows" was given by Mesdames Bathurst, Kay, Melrose, and Symonds, members of Stokes Valley Women's Institute drama circle. Two piano solos were effectively played by Mrs. C. W. Clark, Lower Hutt. Mesdames Bathurst, Kay, Lockwood, Combe, and Symonds gave an excellent presentation of a dramatic sketch, "Patchwork." A realistic tableau, entitled "Queen, Victoria Presents the Prince of Wales," was also given.
In keeping, with the approach of Christmas members sang the Christmas carol, "O Come, All Ye Faithful." Flowers were presented to Mesdames Hurney and Clark, and boxes of homemade sweets to Mesdames Bathurst and Kay. Afternoon tea was served by the committee. SOCIAL AFTERNOON. The members of the choir of the Ngaio branch of the League of Mothers held a very pleasant afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Wilman recently. As a token of appreciation for the amount of work Mrs. Wilman has put into bringing the choir up to a very high standard, she was presented with a beautiful bouquet. Songs were rendered by Mesdames Wilman, Cheverall, Card, Hartill, and Gorton, duet by Mesdames Wilman and Gorton, and two glees by the choir, Mrs. Goatham being the accompanist. Each member of the choir was the recipient of a dainty handkerchief, given by Mrs. Wilman. Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all.
