THE BIGOT WELL

TAIL LIGHT UNLIKELY

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N„ This Day. Awapuni horses with engagements at Feilding accomplished some pleasing trials yesterday under conditions which could not have been better. The poles were 40ft out. A number of horses worked on the plough, which was not fast. Silver River was not asked to do bet-j ter than lmin 9 4-ssec for five furlongs. Rarotonga galloped a similar distance with Ecstatic, and after cutting the first three furlongs out in 39 2-5 sec, they continued on to record lmin 6 3-ssec for the full journey. Royal Choice was sent six furlongs on the plough. He ran to the three furlongs in 39 2-ssec, and finished solidly in lmin 19 3-ssec. Snigger was clear i of Titter at the end of live furlongs run in lmin 6 3-ssec, and Thrasos and White Gold were together after regis- ] tering lmin 6 l-ssec. j The Bigot sprinted six furlongs on! the course proper, and after running the first half-mile in 52sec he went on to record lmin 19sec. He is very well. Oratory and Laughing Lass were companions over a fast-run five furlongs on the plough, and Oratory was in front all the way. They ran the first three furlongs in 39sec, and the full distance in lmin 4 4-ssec. Colonel Bogey was just in front of Aurora's Star and Sporting Gift at the end of five furlongs run in lmin 6) l-ssec. Dainty Sue beat Wildflower over five furlongs on the course proper, recording lmin 5 4-ssec. Surmount sprinted half a mile in 52 3-ssec, and he could have improved upon this time. Oriwai sprinted three furlongs in 41£ sec, and Reanscor was clocked to cover five furlongs in lmin 8 3-ssec. Lady Ina was not troubled in running five furlongs in lmin 6 2-5 sec, the last three in 40sec, and she should reach top form before very long. Though an acceptor for the hurdles at Feilding, Tail Light is unlikely to start. Old Bill has a bit of a cold, but he will probably meet his engagement. Quadroon, Florence Mills, and Corroboree were restricted to pace work yesterday morning. . Royal Record (W. E. Pine) was schooled over four hurdles, and, with plenty of pace on, he gave a sound exhibition. Riding engagements / for Feilding have been announced as follows: —J. Chaplin, Aurora's Star, Rarotonga, Royal Minstrel, White Gold, La Bru, Surmount; G. R. Tattersall, Silver River, Old Bill, Quadroon, Lady Ina, Globe Trotter, Sporting Gift, Corroboree; S. Anderson, Thrasos, Wildflower, Evening Glow, Donegal, Gold Glare; J. Forsyth, Florence Mills; W.1 E. Pine, Royal Record; N. C. Trillo, Erebus; K. Kanake, Oriwai. At Ellerslie, W. J. Broughton will ride Hot Box, Whirling. Beau Repaire, Royal Vaals, and Inpuisitor. LICKEM FORWARD PROSPECTS OF GOLD GLARE (Special from "Limited.") HAWERA, November 24. Hawera horses engaged at the Feilding Meeting were galloped this morning under excellent conditions. Race Call, Silvanus, Student Prince, and Notium returned from their Waikato trip in good order, but the two-year-old Gold Card was galloped on, and is to be set aside till next season. Race Call and Silvanus will probably come in on the second day j at Feilding. Student Prince was prominent in his races at Te Rapa, but was not quite good enough to win. He is to accompany Kokako to Feilding, but he may not come in till the second day. On the outside of the course proper, Kokako beat Chief Lord over three furlongs in 38£ sec. The promising maiden performer Fiancee broke away in front of Lady Kyra and maintained her advantage, running half a mile in 51£ sec. Gold Glare, who was improved by his Levin outing, finished well clear of Le Marquis at the end of five furlongs in lmin s£sec. Filbert was a neck in front of Maahanui and In Command after traversing half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Dark Eagle had the measure of Kilometre over half a mile in 52sec. Gwenland ran three furlongs in 39 sec, and Silver Gift beat Colonel Bunsby over the same distance in 38 3-ssec. On the plough, Lickem was impres-. sive when he shaded Lowenberg in a* half-mile gallop in 50 2-ssec. Lowenberg was favouring a fore-leg after cooling out. Amoroso, alone, galloped five furlongs on the same track in lmin 4sec —a satisfactory effort. The three-year-old Pretty Lass, who ran so creditably at Waverley, will attract attention at Feilding, for she has shown considerable improvement. Ramleh, Lickem, and Gold Glare are likely prospects from this centre. GOLD PETAL AND KOKAKO In the field for the Aorangi Trial Plate at Feilding tomorrow are a couple of maidens who have been well backed in recent starts and who have shown a lot of early speed to indicate why they were so supported. However, neither was able to see out five furlongs at Waverley last month, and the Feilding trip is six furlongs. These two horses are Gold Petal and Kokako. Gold Petal is a five-year-old bay gelding by Oration from the Quin Abbey—Aerofish mare Mystical Rose, the dam also of Derry Belle, a useful hack of some years back, and he is owned by Mr. A. Hay, for whom he is trained at Takanini by C. Morse. Kokako is a three-year-old brown gelding by Hunting Song from the Chief Ruler—Rewa Rewa mare Hinewai, who raced only a season and was a winner at Awapuni, and he is being raced in partnership by Mrs. A. Hicks and his trainer J. Brown, who hold him on lease from Mr. A. Manguson. TROPHIES AT OTAKI A handsome trophy is to be presented to the winner of the Rahui Hack Handicap at the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Meeting on Saturday week. Another trophy will be presented to the winning trainer, and a gold-mounted whip to the successful jockey. The trophies for the winning owner and trainer have been donated by the club, and the whip by Mr. McFetridge, of Manakau. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT. | "C.A.B."—S.L., £1 15s. I
