ATTRACTIVE CARD

FEILDINC'S OPENING DAY

The best all-round card of acceptors for some years has been secured for the opening day of the Feilding Jockey Club's Spring Meeting at Feilding tomorrow. The racing promises to be keenly contested, and the form will be a valuable clue for the fixtures! immediately following in these parts and leading up to the holiday meetings. An added attraction will be a i parade of the two Melbourne Cup win-! ners, Wotan and Catalogue, the former being also engaged in the main' event of the day. There have been recent showers in the Oroua district, so that the track should be in capital order. The course has been improved since the last meeting, the seven furlongs start now being down an extension of the back stretch, instead of on the turn going out of the straight. The betting will be under the singlepool system. Racegoers from Wellington who are ! desirous of attending tomorrow may avail themselves of excursion fares on the train leaving Wellington station at 7.55 a.m. A return train leaves l Feilding at 5.45 p.m., arriving in Wellington at 9.51 p.m. THE BEST QUALITY. Though there are only eight acceptors for the Manchester Cup, they include horses of the best class. On form the logical pair are the consistent Quadroon and the improved Brazen King, winners at their last starts. Yet if Wotari' were to do it right he would beat these two horses with his weight concession, and he was unluckier than the result made it appear in the Metropolitan Handicap on the final day of the New Zealand Cup Meeting. Tiger Gain, the i winner of this race the last I two years, and Galteemore, second at Levin last Saturday, are others capable of a bold showing. The three-year-old Surmount, on his Riccarton form, appears the bright star in the Flying Handicap, and he will undoubtedly be favourite. The last three-year-old to win this particular event was Covent Garden, carrying 8.0, in 1927, but a number of three-year-olds have won the second day's sprint in recent years, including Tenterden, Diatomous, and Karl, and Surmount is a particularly brilliant galloper. The pair who may be Surmounts main danger are Mittie and Laughing Lass, with possibilities also about Triune, Tauijangi, Florence Mills, and Life Guard. FROM NEW POST. Another open event is the Kiwitea Handicap, from the new seven furlongs barrier, and this is a race that affords The Bigot a good chance of improving his winning record. Others with prospects on form are Lickem, Meamea, Debham, Triune (if reserved), and Silver River. The two hack events will be well contested. In the Kowhai Handicap, Royal Choice has his opportunity of atoning for his narrow Levin defeat, with other prospects in Earl Colossus, Corroboree. Royal Tinge, and Rarotonga. In the Fitzroy Handicap, the likeliest group appear to comprise Red Cat,'Namara, Footloose, Ecstatic, Sporting Gift, and Ruling Spi. The favourite for the Juvenile Stakes will probably be, Scandal, but his defeat on this turning course is quite within the bounds at the hands 'of such as Globe Trotter, Pen, and Lord Midas. In the Waituna Hurdles/with Tail Light and Student Prince unlikely runners, the best prospects on form may be Erebus or Entheos, Beau Gallante, and Tareha. The Aorangi Trial Plate is very open with its large field, but, reasonably drawn, those who may claim support include Little Dorrit. Old Bill. Thrasos, White Rajah, Gold Petal, Regicide, and Kokako.
