EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS
BIGGEST SERIES FOR THIRTY YEARS
LONDON, November 11
The primary shock of the severe earthquake recorded yesterday was registered at 8.30 p.m., the secondary shock at 8.39 p.m., and the maximum shock at 9 p.m. The instrument was still recording at 11 p.m.
A seismologist believes that it was centred between 5000 and 6000 miles from Britain. He declared that there was no doubt it was extraordinarily severe. .
The maximum swing of the needle was twelve inches, which was unequalled, even in *the Tokio earthquake of 1923. He added that within a week there had been the biggest series of shocks known for the last thirty years.
