Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate north-westerly to westerly winds. Weather fine and warm.

The forecast for the Dominion, issued at noon today, was for winds between north-westerly and southwesterly, mainly light to moderate but freshening at times in some exposed positions. The weather will be somewhat changeable in districts with a westerly aspect, with ocasional showers, but elsewhere it will be fair to fine. Temperatures will be warm.

Barometers have risen considerably in the south, and the meteorological situation is now a Relatively quiet one of the westerly type. Except for some gales about Cook Strait yesterday wind forces have been light to moderate, while the predominating directions have lain between north-west and west. A change to south-westerly advanced, up the South Island'last night in the rear of a weak depression, but already by' this morning winds were going back again to the north-west. The weather has shown a general improvement on the unsettled conditions which have prevailed during the last few days. There have • been some light rains in western- districts south of Taranaki, and it was still dull today along the west coast of the North Island, but otherwise the weather has been fair to fine and pleasantly warm.

At Auckland yesterday it was cloudy but fine, with a. moderate westerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 66.6 and the minimum 58. This morning it has become overcast, and the wind had gone round to the southwest.

After ten days of unusually light winds Wellington yesterday had a return to the more typical spring conditions, with a blustering north-westerly gale. The day was warm, the maximum temperature being 67.1 and the minimum 55.2. There were 9.6 hours of sunshine. A light, driving drizzle, amounting, however, to only one point of rain, fell from about 7 p.m. to after midnight. The weathqr cleared again this morning shortly after daybreak and the wind died down. ,

A very warm day was experienced in Christchurch yesterday, the maximum temperature being 73.4 and the minimum 51.1. It was sunny in the morning, but clouded over in the afternoon. The wind changed from north-easterly to north-westerly, and a second change of wind to the south-west occurred at 11 p.m. (

Dunedin had a short spell of fine weather in the morning yesterday, but misty rain set in about 11 a.m. and became heavy during the evening. A moderate north-easterly breeze prevailed. This morning the weather was calm and sunny.
