SCHOOL BOXING
CROYDON TOURNAMENT
Youthful contestants took part in the annual boxing tournament of Croydon School, Day's Bay, held in the school gymnasium recently.
Results are as follows:—
Heavyweight.—First round: M. D. Sinclair beat A. H. Miles. Final: Sinclair beat R. Grundy.
Middleweight.—First round: M. J. Soler beat D. C. T. Bush; K. K. M. Barton beat H. K. Abel. Final: Soler beat Barton.
Lightweight.—First round: W. I. Day beat E. J. H. Barnard; J. N. Simpson beat I. L. Gilmour. Final: Simpson beat Day. Bantamweight.—First round: A. J. Lewis beat J. F. M. Grear; P. M. Tunnington beat M. H. Roger. Final: Lewis beat Tunnington.
Featherweight.—First round: P. L. Bush beat P. G. Ricketts. Final: Bush beat J. Checkley.
The referee was Mr. P. Stone, . the judges Messrs. Kean and McKay, and the timekeeper Mr. Ryan. The instructor, Mr. J. Crowley, was commended for the high standard of boxing attained. M. J. Soler won the Wellington Boxing Association's medal for the most scientific boxer.
