. Cases in the Upper Huttf Court were dealt with by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M. Thomas Richard Parry was fined 5s and costs for attempting to cross the railway line at the King Street crossing when it was not clear, and £1 and costs for not having a driver's licence. Constable F. Williams said that Parry had two children in front of his motortruck with him. The motor-truck stopped, but it was not clear of the line, and it was struck by a rail-car, which was scored along the panelling. No one was injured.

Fines were imposed in these cases where the heavy-traffic licence had not been renewed: —Thomas D. Forsyth, £2 and costs; George Frank Holcroft, 30s and costs; Bertram Henry Wheeler and Frank John Taylor, £1 each and costs. For riding his motor-cycle without a light John Charles Ross was fined and costs.

A" fine of £2 10s and costs was imnosed on Oswald Stuart James for driving his motor-car at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public. Inspector C. A. J. Peterson said that on a'Sunday afternoon, when traffic was heavy, James drove at 50 m.p.h., and then increased his speed to 55 m.p.h. When stopped he said he thought his speed was about 45 m.p.h. Fines were imposed as follows in these cases where bicycles were ridden at night without lights:—Ernest W. Baillie, 5s and costs; James Abraham Dunn, Ernest Tunnell, and Robert Martin, £1 each and costs. In addition Martin was fined 5s and costs for not having a rear reflector on his bicycle. A fine of £2 10s and costs was imposed on Leonard Max for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. Stuart Knox Newall was fined 15s and costs for not carrying a warrant of fitness with his vehicle, and on a similar charge William Henry Wilkes was fined 10s and costs, and Kingsbury Chapman Taylor 5s and costs. An accident on September 18, when a motor-cycle driven by Robert Arnold Tofhliri collided with a taxi, driven by Claude Baigent, that was turning in the street, had its sequel in a charge against Torhlin for exceeding 30 m.p.h. and against Baigent of driving without due care and attention.

After the hearing of evidence the Magistrate dismissed the charge against Baigent, who was represented by Mr. A. H. Macandrew, and fined Tomlin (represented by Mr. F. N. G. Wakelin) £1 and costs.
