CADETS INSPECTED
WELLINGTON COLLEGE
His last inspection of the Ist Cadet Battalion, Wellington Regiment, was carried out by Colonel I. T. Standish, Officer Commanding the Central Military Command, at Wellington College yesterday afternoon. Colonel Standish is to relinquish his command shortly.
The battalion, comprising about 560 pupils of. the ■ college, .fanewolled Colonel Standish with three rousing cheers, after they had been inspected by him and had performed battalion drill. Then followed a march past. Ah interested spectator' was Mrs. Fox-Yates, in the memory of whose son, Sergeant George Fox-Yates, a college pupil who died last year, a cup was presented. When addressing the parade before the presentation of shooting trophies, Mr. W. A. Armour, principal, mentioned that Sergt- FoxYates had been champion battalion shot and had, been one of the best N.C.O.s to pass through the college.
Colonel Standish congratulated the battalion on its turn-out, stating that there were few occasions on which he had been more satisfied with the appearance of similar parades. He felt sure that in years to come the members of the battalion would look back with pride and pleasure on their experience. He urged the boys always to take a pride in their school and anything it did.
The following trophies were presented: —Battalion shot: Sergeant B. R. Jones'; A Company, Cadet D. E. Coates; B Company, Sergeant B. R. Jones; C Company, Sergeant A. V 7. Hollis; D Company, Cadet A. H. Allan; College senior championship. Sergeant B. R. Jones; intermediate (Fox-Yates Memorial Cup), Cadet L. P. Fricker; junior, Cadet S. G. Mansfield; Berry Cup for best platoon, No. 1 Platoon, A Company (Sergt. J. D. Bcdingficld).
