INFURIATED CROWD

RACECOURSE WRECKED

FAULTY START GIVES RACE

TO OUTSIDER

(Received July 15, 11.30 a.m.) MARSEILLES, July 14. The racecourse at Pont de Vivaux was wrecked by punters enraged by a judge's decision. The starting barrier rose faultily, enabling an outsider to romp home. When the horse's name was posted the crowd, infuriated, fired the hedges, slashed the benches, and demolished the totalisator, only sparing the concrete grandstand. It will be many weeks before the course can be used again. Several police and demonstrators were injured.
