UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY NOT PAID
Two charges of being in default for more than one month in payment of the unemployment levy were made against William Strickland in the Petone Court yesterday before Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M. Mr. E. A. Selman, district employment officer, said that Strickland was in default with six instalments, which amounted, with arrears and penalties, to £2 8s 6d. The Department had granted him concessions and every consideration. He was charged with a similar offence in October, 1934. He was a hairdresser and tobacconist by occupation, and towards the end of last year was receiving £2 12s a week. He had several children in employment.
Strickland was fined £2 and costs on one charge, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within six months on the other charge.
