SUCCESSFUL DANCE

BACHELORS ENTERTAIN

It is specially interesting to find that there is in Wellington a newlyformed Bachelors' Club, with a president (Mr. C. Evans-Scott) and an honorary secretary (Mr. Michael Nathan). Committee members are Messrs. G. and T. Robert, A. Home, and J. Ward.

These, with the addition of Mr. T. Macarthy and Mr.".D. Lunn, last night arranged a very charming dance ;at the Mayfair Cabaret.. There was an atmosphere of great cheerfulness about, and-the hosts were busy looking after the comfort and amusement of their guests. The decorations of flowers and greenery were well done, lycopodium and other bush foliage being, intermingled with dahlias in many tones, while round the room were' most amusing sentiments produced by Tara Evans-Scott, with cartoons by Valeric Graham-Robertscn. They caused much merriment, although some of them were not exactly flattering'to" the feminine ideas. These,. with gay red and yellow shaded lights, made a charming addition to the ensemble. Refreshments were in the' "blue" room, and an excellent supper was set in the larger room, with decorations of bronze and pink chrysanthemums in silver epergnes, while handsome dahlia heads were set around -with good effect. ' ; :

There were some charming frocks, those with the; new ■ flowing " skirts edged with bands of brilliant colours being specially noticeable.' A delightful one waj of white stiffened net. with a wide skirt bordered with red and .blue satin ribbon (accomplishing a definite "Coronation" effect), the' corsage having frosted leaves in white and silver, with pearl ornaments. Another artistic frock was of black georgette, the wide skirt edged with three bands of brilliant colours. These seemed to make a more artistic effect than the satin "sheath" frocks, though there 'were some very smart ones of the latter description. Another variety of evening frock which is new.is that, which has a completely high bodice, with either a puffed or. long sleeve.

Among those present were.. Misses Joan Beere, Tara Evans-Scott, Helen Ward, Marjorie Shoosmith, G. Litchfield, ,-.Erna- Porter, Susan Bothamley, Georgette Handyside, . .Thyra-.'.Gill, Logan (Masterton), Mary White, Ngaire Aplin, Joan. Campbell, E. Andrews, S. Wellwood, R.
