ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION
A. large number of members, and friends of the English-speaking Union attended a meeting in the Dominion Farmers' Institute buildings yesterday afternoon.
Mr. J. W. Black, 'who was introduced by the chairwoman (Mrs. D. B. Claridge) gave an interesting address on "The Aims and Objects of the English-speaking Union," stressing the fact that it was necessary to draw together, in bonds of comradeship,. the English-speaking countries of the world. .
Two minutes* silence were observed as a mark of respect to the late Dr. Mario Dessaules, Italian Consul in Wellington,
Mrs. J. E. Ramsay and Miss Elga Christy, sang several delightful songs, accompanied by Miss Lois Ramsay.
The hostesses were Mesdames E. D, Good, M...G. Phelan, S. Eaton, J. K. Preston, E. Daniels, G. Scott, A. Duncan, and C. Dentice.
