CARD EVENING
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
Some seventy players took part in a "500" tournament, held by the social committee of the Hutt Valley branch of the R.S.A. in their club rooms at Lower Hutt. Mesdames Robins, Shand, Mustard, and Wilton assisted Messrs, Barclay and Robins in conducting the proceedings. Members and friends taking part in the play included Mr. and Mrs. Hoare, Mr. and Mrs. Proebstel, Mr. and Mrs. S. Ashton, Mr. and Mrs. C. Whiteman, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett, Mr. and Mrs. D. Wilson; Mesdames Edwards, Warburton, J. Annear, D. Annear, Larson, August, sen., Donkin, S. Cooper, Carlson, Ritchie, Futter,. Mcllraith, Hooper, Fullford, Hutchinson, Haigh, Defour, Gunn, Key, Mitchell, Nolan, Carr, Tanner, Brown, Palmer, Dudding, Dalton, Latham, and Messrs. Burridge, McPhee, McNicol, Cansey, Elliott, Mustard, and Heeney. Women's Club. ' Mrs. Milne presided over a meeting of the Women's Club connected with the R.S.A. in Lower Hutt. The many present were entertained by Miss Noeline Stewart, who gave a display of tapdancing in costume, and by Mesdames Potter and Leibezeit, Miss. Dorothy Went, and Miss Peggy Milne in. vocal items. Mrs.. Potter's numbers were "Songs My Mother Sang" (Grimshaw),; and "Thank God for a Garden" (Del.
Reigo); and '.'Bird Songs at Eventide" and "I Look Into Your Garden" were sung by Mrs. Leibezeit. "Where'er You Walk" (Handel) and "Little Chinese Mandarin" (Montague Phillips) were Miss Peggy : Milne's items, and "I Know a Lovely Garden" (D'Hardelot) and "Fairies (Hope-Martin) were' contributed by Miss^Went. -Mrs. Noel Taylor=was accompanist. Assisting with the afternoon tea were Mesdames Milne, C. G. Hedge, N. Taylor, Ashforth, Lees, Walsh, Brittell, Parkin, and Westbury. Those present included Mesdames A. Taylor, Robins, Birrell, Symon, -Bathurst, Evans, H. Taylor, Wilton, Mustard, O'Shea, Bentley, Dixon, Burr, Whiteman, Latham, Murray, Redmond, Hamilton, Woolley, Stanton, and Miss E. Whiteman.
