CAUSED DEATH
INTOXICATED DRIVER
TERM OF HARD LABOUR
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
"I am not going to deal with you merely as a wild young man. I am going to deal with you as a motorist so forgetful of his duty that he drove while intoxicated, and caused a person's death."
With this pronouncement his Honour Mr. Justice Northcroft sentenced John McLean Hunter to three months' imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of driving while intoxicated, and causing the death of a girl with whom he was keeping company. Hunter's driving licence was cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining another for three years. "Motorists.", added his Honour, "cannot mix motoring and drink." .
