ANXIOUS FEW SECONDS

A well-known owner in the Auckland Province spent an anxious few seconds during the course of a race at Trentham last week. -He had received a sum of money from a relative to invest on his horse, but on the morning of tho race be decided that it had little chance, and that he would not even back it for himself, let alone for his relative. He wrote a note and posted it prior to going to the course, informing the relative of his decision. Imagine the owner's feelings when he saw his horse in front with only a furJong to go and paying in the vicinity, of'half a century. However, it faded out in the last couple of hundred yards, much to his relief, and his judgment was thus vindicated.
