Remarkable keenness is being shown by the-players selected to go into training with a view to sending the strongest possible team away for the New Zealand Hookey. Shield match with .either Waikato: or Auckland. Eegular'trainirig. and talfe on tactics are having a decidedly: beneficial effect, and this: is most noticeable in the competition games.V. Whateyer the; outcome of the shield match the efforts now being made %yill not be wasted, and there is a,; distinct likelihood that a similar arrangement will be made next season in view of the visit of the Indian team.. In that event, the Wellington team may be expected.to provide the; visitors with some: real opposition; It will be, noted ejteewherb in this, column Jhati-.,tho Indian team promises to set'new records in this country, and it behoves the W.H.A. to leave nothing undone that will help to make the match in Wellington a memorable one. ~... ■ . .
Reverting to the preparations being made for the shield engagement next month it is interesting to - note that starting from today as many of the trainees as are available will play extra time after tho competition games, at Karori Park with the object of working up combination and proficiency iii field and circle tactics. From this and other indications it is apparent that Auckland o'r'Waikato will have no easy task in defending the trophy. In'connection with the expenses of the Wellington team, the association is arranging two theatre nights on July 2<t and 25 for the purpose of raising funds. The association has also decided to make a grant towards the expenses of the shield team.
