PRESBYTERIAN CLUB
Thirty-six* runners competed in the Presbyterian Club's inter-class teams' race for the Martin Shield from St.' James' Church, Newtown, over a course of about three miles. Starting opposite the Public Hospital towards John Street, the trail turned up Hospital Road, round the back of the Nurses' Home, and past the Fever Hospital on --to Mount Victoria Road. After running up the road a short distance, a track down the side of the hill was followed through Pirie Street Reserve to Brougham Street, along ' Brougham Street, down Ellice Street, and then up Adelaide Road for the finish. Owing to some of St. Giles's best runners not being able to take part and an unaccountable loss of form on the part of St. John's runners, St. James's team had a^comfortable win, their men filling first, second, third, fourth, and seventh places. The: teams' result was: St. James' (M. Luxford, W. Scott, F. Cox; D. Bowe, T. Clayton), 17 points, .1; St. John's (M. Stephenson, I. Stevenson, C. Randerson, R. D. Moore, H. Smith), 64 points, 2; St. Giles's (A. Congalton, C. Seelye, P. Barnes, A. Crawford, K. Haswell), 78 points, 3. Individual placings were: M. Luxford,' 18min I3sec, 1; W. Scott, ISmin 47sec, 2; F. Cox, 19min, 3.
