DIAMOND DEFEAT HUTT
Diamond defeated' Lower 'Hutt at the Hutt Recreation Ground on Saturday the score being in favour of Diamond by 3 goals to 2. The match was fast and interesting, and at the end of the opening half of the game the scores were even, both sides having gained one goal. In the second half Diamond had slightly the better of things, and proved the winners by a bare margin. The teams were:— Diamond.—-Cunningham; O'Connell, Hopper; Carlson,'Geddes, O'Connor; O'Leary, Wotherspoon; Tucker, Killick, Tanner. . Lower Hutt.—Body; McSloy, Hazel; Land, McDougall, Stobbs; Batchelor Jessup. Brown, Cross, McGrath. The new goalkeeper, Cunningham, was a great help to Diamond in the match, and possibly made all the difference between a win and a loss. He gave a fine display, and had no chance against the shots which scored. Diamond were first to score,Geddes placing the ball nicely for Tanner to finish off with a good goal. After that Hutt pressed hard, and finally •Killick managed to get to the ball as it came out nf a knot of players and find the net. 1 here was no further score in the first half, though' both teams made the pace fast and shots went very close at times. Brown goaled for Hntt at £he beginning of the second half, and though the pace of play slackened'.. somewhat hereabouts the game was still full of interest. The
Hutt wingers were both dangerous, and Brown was quick to take advantage of any chances. The next Diamond score came from Killick after a corner by Tanner, and the last goal of the match was ■ registered about fifteen minutes before the close, Tucker getting away with the ball and beating the Lower Hutt backs. The final quarter of an. hour revealed the losing team at its best, and Lower Hutt were unlucky not to score at least once. On the other hand the,Diamond defence Btood up to pressure well, and the final score was Diamond 3, Lower Hutt 2.
Mr. N. Brian was the referee.
