MANY NATIONS MEET
PAN-PACIFIC CONFERENCE
third Pan-Pacific Conference, which will take place from. August 6 to August 22, is looked forward to .with much interest by a large section of women; It is called for the women who live around the Pacific shores to nieet together and discuss tho questions which afl^ect all in this part of tho world, the idea being to secure a better understanding ,of the conditions in each country represented. . , ■
Delegates sent are divided into groups representing national and international relations, government, education, industry, home economics, health; and social questions. Each, group has a trained leader, a delegate, whose business it is to co-ordinate all the work harmoniously. The objectives of this conference do not; seem, to be. well understood by ,a number of people outside the organised women's societies. Knowledge and agreement, stated briefly, are what is aimed at. The delegates meet, exchange ideas and information;, they -differ, perhaps, then they see reasons for agreement, return to their homelands, and begin the work of education.. This task goes on all the year, allied with the steady assembling together : of more reliable information (with mention of changes in work or constitution), ready for the next conference.
The delegates may bo- regarded as among the leading women, dwolling in the Pacific coasts—scientists, doctors, teachers, social workers, and some chosen specially for their homo qualities, for tho preservation of the home is the earnest wish of all thinking -women. It is rather a marvellous thing that the women from the East and those from the West can meet together in amity ana discuss subjects of importance to all when- their upbringing and outlook are so different.
It is in the hope that there may be solid and lasting friendship among the women of the. several nations, white and coloured, all tending to support the future peace of the world,' that the women attend this conference at Honolulu. For this they learn and work, and put fofth : their best efforts, and for this they have the hearty good wishes of the understanding women of-each nation,
