FATAL ACCIDENT
WOMAN STRUCK BY TRAM
MAN ALSO INJURED
Fatal injuries to her head \rere sus-' tamed by Mrs. Mildred Pippard, of 48 Ellice Street, when sho was knocked down by a tram in Kent Terrace at 8.35 p.m. yesterday. Frederick Doell, aged 50, of. 38^ Wallace Street, who was accompanying Mrs. Pippard, was also knocked clown by the tram, and sustained a fractured right arm,, abrasions to the head and shock.. The tram was travelling'from Lyall Bay to Lambton Station, and the accident took place a few yards past the Elizabeth Street points; '• ' ■ Mrs. Pippard was in a very serious condition when she was admitted to hospital, snd.died at-.1.10.a.iri. Doell is reported to be making good progress. . It is understood' that Mrs. Pippard and Doell had come down Elizabeth Street and were crossing over to Cambridge Terrace when the accident occurred. Eain was falling, and it is stated that the visibility at the time was poor. The late Mrs.' Pippard, who came to New Zealand from England four years ago, ; had only one relative in this country, a daughter, aged 16.
