HUTT DEBATING SOCIETY
The Lower Hutt Debating Society held its usual,weekly meeting last evening. The subject for debate ,was that the Amalgamation of the. Hutt and.Petone Boroughs is Desirabl^" The. question was well handled'-by"imembers of the society, and the motion' .was carried, by, a narrow marSubsequently Mr. 'Walter":;Nash, M.P., delivered .an' address on unemployment, its cause, and effect. Mr. Nash-.gave a lucid explanation^ of the present position. Nevev before,, he said, lias, the world passed throtigh such' a stage of worry, fear, and distress;, yet .during the last £en years the production of commodities "has increased immensely in the ratio t of three to one to tile population. Biit while the1 world could'live on:1 the commodities it froduced, it\emild not- consume sovereigns: t seemcd> therefore/that there was Bomething-' Wj-ong .iwi.th the distribution, of wealth :to' the'pcbple. ■ • ■';.-.■ After ; explaining -the.icause,of gluts, and falling piied levels due to faulty distribution, he showed, "what, Rearing these facts had on unemployment, and gave' figures' "in relation to..Qther countries showing- the position outside New Zealand.
