STOCKS FROM NEWCASTLE
MINISTER EXPLAINS
Concern has been expressed by the coal-miners of New Zealand at the fact that steamers have been dispatched to Newcastle to load coal for .New Zealand, and representations on tho subject have been made to the Government.
In an interview at' Patea, the .Minister of Railways (the Hon. W. ArVcitch) gave as the reason for the importation of coal the necessity for the New Zealand stock of hard coal to be augmented by supplies from Newcastle. A sufficiency of coal suitable for necessary storage purposes was not forthcoming in New Zealand, he said.
