SHEEPSKINS SALES

TROUBLE AT TIMARU

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, 15th. May. The disposal of twenty thousand sheepskins was held up in Timaru this morning as a result of a deadlock developing between the buying representatives of Chistchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin firms and the Southland-Canterbury Auctioneers' Association. The buyers re? fused to'operate because the Auctioneers' Association declined to remit the delivery charge of Is per 100 skins, which always has been levied at this centre. At.a previous sale six months ago the buyers announced ■ they would not be operating next auction unless the association remitted its charge. When the brokers and buyers assembled for the sale this morning, Mr. J. Todd, on behalf of buyers, asked the chairman of the Auctioneers' Association for its decision in regard to the delivery fee. Mr. C. E. Shallcrass, chairman, replied that the association intended to adhere to the charge, although it pointed out that Timaru was the only centre at which it was made. The buyers thereupon held a meeting and unanimously decided not to proceed with the sale. The Auctioneers' Association will meet at an early date to decide what steps should be taken.
