REQUEST THAT FAILED
When Frederick 'Taylor, alias Arthur Thompson, alias Arthur Wilson, aged 49, ■was charged in the Magistrate's Court, today, along with William Boyle, aged 46, he asked the, Magistrate to send him to Koto Roa Island. "It.seems to be drink that lias broken me down," be said, "and I think a year on the Island would do me good." • . ■•,■'•'■■ Senior-Sergeant Dempsey,. however, threw a different light on the application. "Taylor," he said, "-wants to so to the Island so that he can have a holiday, nothing more."., .....„ : . The accused were charged with being found unlawfully in an unoccupied house at 207, Taranaki street., Prior to; being discovered at 1 a.m. to-day, the. seniorsergeant said, he had been drinking methylated spirits. In the case of Boyle, who was in bad shape, he asked for a week's remand in order that the accused might have the-benefit of some good food. The application was granted in the case of Boyle, and Taylor was sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
