CHEAPEE IN LONDON

STIMULATING CONSUMPTION

The Dairy Board's cable, dated London, 12th April, shows New Zealand butter and cheese,selling retail in London at prices.at below those being paid in Wellington: Finest butter is 120s to 124s per cwt, retailing at Is 4d per lb; and finest quality cheese is quoted at /0s to 73s for white, and 72s to 76s for coloured, retailing at lOd per lb. Demand of both products has been improved by the lower prices, states the board. " , ' Prices quoted are as follow:— Butter—New Zealand, salted 120s to 1245, uhsalted 132s to 136s to 140s, first whey 114s, second whey 112s. Prices last week were: Salted 124s to 128s, unsalted 134s to 1425, whey butter the same. This time, last year the prices for New Zealand salted were 164s to 1665, and for unsalted 166s to 170s. Other butters are also down in'price, at the following quotations:—Australian, salted 116s to 120s, unsalted 118s to 1225; Argentine, unsalted Ilia to 116s to 118s; Irish, salted 120s, unsalted 1265; Danish, 136s to 138s; Dutch, unsalted 130s to 138s; Polish, 112s to 118s. The. retail price of Danish butter is reduced to Is sd. SUPPLIES AND STOCKS. ThefDairy Board is advised that deliveries of.New Zealand butter last week' were 1350 tons, and that, there were • in Store.6 800 tons, against 7750 tons held this time last year.
