STOKES VALLEY
The annual, meeting of the Stokes Valley Progressive Association was held on Saturday evening. In the absence-of the president and-vice-president, Mr. F. Cornwall was elected chairman. The annual reports and balance-sheets for the executive ■ and hall committees showed very creditable balances. A. lengthy discussion took place in reference to the proposed Eastern Hutt railway, and it was resolved that the incoming committee should keep this important matter well in view, also the bus services to and from Stokes Val ley. ■ ' •■■■■■ The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. J. Combe; vice-president, Mr. H. F. Muir; secretary, Mr. B. Owen; treasurer, Mr. P. Cording; auditors, Messrs. J. Payne and G. Parker; executive committee, Mr. G. Dyett, T. Delaney, 8: D. Thomson, H. Hawthorne, and E. Johnson; members of the hall ■ committee, Misses E. '. Johnson and F. Cording, Mesdames Dyett, Hipkins, Owen, Payne, and Combe. The following five members were elected by the trustees to work in conjunction with, the hall committee: Messrs. j. Payne, T. Delaney, P. Cording, J. Combe, and H. St. John. . The.chairman moved a vote of thanks' to the outgoing committee for -their efforts during the past year. This'was received with acclamation. '..."..■
