WITHOUT A LICENCE
DUNEDIN" SPEEDWAYS FINED
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.") DTJNEDIN, This Day. The Dunedin Speedways, Ltd., was charged in the Police Court to-day with carrying on business without a licence. Mr. Barrowclough, who prosecuted for the City Council, said that--on 3rd .March the company was notified that proper sanitary conveniences had not been provided, and the licence must be withheld. The company, however, had held meetings there without a licence. A scheme for drainage had now been submitted to the Corporation, and the Corporation was prepared to adopt it subject to certain modifications. Mr. Neill, for the defence, admitted that a technical breach of the bylaw had been committed, but as this was due to misunderstanding he asked for a nominal penalty. The Magistrate said it appeared to bo more than a case for a nominal penalty. .A fine of £5 would be imposed, with Court costs (10s) and solicitor's fee (£1 Is).
